Lonnie Herrington

Lonnie Herrington is a father of four adult children and the husband of Lise who reside in the the rural farm country area of Belleville Ontario known as Thurlow ward.

Lonnie is hard working , dedicated and loyal to his Country and his Province. He believes that hard work builds character as well as prosperity. Lonnie also firmly believes that every worker should reap the benefits of their hard labour and choose how they spend each and every penny to achieve the quality of life that they desire.

Prior to attending college in the last 1980s and early 1990’s Lonnie served with the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment in Belleville before transferring to the 25^th Service Battalion in Sault Ste Marie Ontario. Where he really became aware of his pride and commitment to his Country. With the utmost respect for the many men and women who served and protected our great nation, before and now, and provide the free democracy that we have to this day.

Prior to attending college Lonnie followed in the foot steps of his parents and grandparents by working in the trades in carpentry, building, renovations and home repair. After receiving his trade certification he went on to work in the industry. He eventually started his own company where he grew to having 27 full time staff employed and managed a fleet of commercial vehicles while working hands on in the industry that he loves so much. Lonnie has a moto at work and that is “Be Honest and Be Fair”. If you are honest with your clients as well as fair with your clients they are a clients for life.

Lonnie want to be in politics for a few reasons but the most important ones are:

• With half of his children already moved away to Alberta and British Columbia he fears he will lose the remaining to these same job friendly, employee and business supporting provinces.
• Family values are of utmost importance to Lonnie who firmly believes that strong families build strong communities. When parent and grandparents participate in the upbringing of children the whole community is made stronger and more united.
• His business acumen, from all his years in business, he believes will provide important insight into the difficulties that affect business growth and prosperity. He can take first hand knowledge to the table to ensure that the needs and concerns of business owners and employees are accounted for.
• Over regulations and over taxation of businesses are not only a deterrent to growth but is a direct cause of lack of prosperity to the owners as well as the employees.
• Lonnie believes that every dollar collected and spent by government should be considered to be on loan and subject to payback to the taxpayers.

Lonnie is proud to hang a copy of the Magna Carta on his office wall. This is the founding document for the democracy that we enjoy right here in Canada and Ontario. The document that basically states that government is founded on the support of the people and is to work FOR THE PEOPLE.

Hastings and Lennox & Addington is a vibrant , lovely , rural Ontario area that provides many of the raw materials required for a majority of the products we purchase in hardware stores and our super markets. Some of the BEST beef, pork and other meat products as well as vegetables and fruits are raised and supplied by hard working farmers and their families right here in Hastings and Lennox & Addington. Farmers that are struggling to survive, struggling to make a profit when many are barley breaking even.

Hastings and Lennox & Addington families are far below the provincial median income levels. Many families are surviving on less than $40,000.00 per year while other areas in Ontario are at levels closer to $70,000.00 or more. It is of no wonder why our population growth is almost stagnant, HLA families cannot afford the larger families that our Loyalist derived region once could. To make matters worse our children are rushing to leave as soon and they remove their graduation caps. Tearing families apart by long distances all in an effort to survive and make good on their own personal ambitions.

Hastings and Lennox & Addington is basically in the middle between Toronto and Montreal. We can be assured that 90% plus of every product available in Ontario is passing us by on trucks every single day. With them the jobs are leaving, the manufacturing, the processing, the shipping, everything is driving right on by. With being in the Ontario corridor we should be part of this mass shipping and manufacturing but we are not. Ontario has over regulated and over taxed Ontario business out of work. Plain and simple, we cannot compete with our competition when Ontario’s costs are so much more that other markets.

As your MPP I will strive to bring the industry to Hastings Lennox & Addington. Bringing with them the jobs and the business support needed to ensure growth and prosperity of our region and its families.

Lonnie’s business moto is “Be Honest and Be Fair” . He plans to take this moto with him to Queens Park and ensure that when he is asked to vote on any matter. that he is voting for his constituents and the business owners of Hastings and Lennox & Addington. He will vote for his constituents not his party.
